Hearts 4 Minds To Unveil New Mural In Jacksonville At Bank Of America San Marco

JACKSONVILLE, Fla - Hearts 4 Minds, a Jacksonville nonprofit dedicated to breaking the stigma of mental health and facilitating early identification and treatment of mental illness through tools, resources and education, is unveiling a new mural as part of its Murals with Meaning program in San Marco on August 19 at 9:30 a.m. The mural is located on the wall of the Bank of America San Marco.

Hearts 4 Minds’ Murals with Meaning initiative promotes mental health awareness and shares valuable resources to those struggling with mental illness, all while enhancing the Jacksonville community. Each mural showcases the dragonfly symbol of courage, strength and change, and includes a QR code visitors can scan that connects them to available mental health resources.

“Completing a mural in a prominent space was key for this latest undertaking,” said Sheryl Johnson, founder of Hearts 4 Minds. “We wanted to create a light, ethereal feeling with airy dragonfly wings. The design invites people to take photos and enjoy the mural from every angle in the San Marco square.”

This mural is the work of local artist David Nackashi. Nackashi has previously worked on past murals in the series, according to Johnson, and was chosen to design the Bank of America mural due to his “understanding of our mission, support of our goal, and artistic vision”

The unveiling will take place at the “Be the Focus” Birthday Party at the Balis Park Gazebo. This party aims to celebrate both the mural and Johnson’s son, Alex, who passed away in 2018 due to mental illness. He would have turned 29 on August 19 and is the reason Hearts 4 Minds was created.

“David designed our very first mural in our Murals with Meaning initiative. It’s only right that he works on this special piece that commemorates and honors Alex,” said Johnson. “We hope this dragonfly mural inspires the community and spreads awareness. Hearts 4 Minds looks forward to unveiling our new mural and furthering our mission of changing how we look at mental health.”
